During the summer and fall of 2020, Carter spent a lot of time at his friend’s lake house in Conroe. One weekend, the guys asked their friend, Olivia Nowell, to take over the guest list and Liv proceeded to invite many of her high school friends to meet her college guy friends at the lake house, and the guestlist included Madie. Two nights before the friends all headed to the lake house, Liv and Grace Mahaffey told Madie there would be a guy named Carter at the house and they could really see Madie hitting it off with him. Madie and Carter thank their wonderful friends for setting them up and bringing them together.

Since the day Madie and Carter met they were head over heels for each other. Madie remembers the first time she laid eyes on Carter and remembers leaving the weekend at the lake house thinking this guy is going to play a larger part in my life than just some guy I met one random weekend during our covid days at the lake. Carter recalls his friend George saying “you’re going to marry that girl one day” as they drove back to College Station from Conroe that weekend.

Since meeting, Madie and Carter have traveled over 30,000 miles from Fort Worth to Houston, Houston to Fort Worth, and Fort Worth/Houston to their favorite places, Lake Travis and Horseshoe Bay. Carter has listened to many hours of Joe Rogan and Madie has listened to countless audiobooks during their drives.

In May of 2023, Carter popped the question in Horseshoe Bay overlooking the lake by the yacht club. With the help of Carter’s mom, Ashley, Madie’s mom, Rebecca, Madie’s younger brother, Mason, and Madie’s Uncle Cary, and countless other family and friends, Carter surprised Madie with the most amazing proposal and most beautiful engagement ring.
